The Company Our aim on this page is to give you some information about us – some of which you will anyway be looking for and some, like insurances we carry, you may not otherwise have remembered to check out. You may be tempted to think that these things don’t matter, particularly for small repair jobs, but they do. To us all jobs, no matter how large or small, deserve and receive our very best service!
We are an incorporated Limited Company currently employing eleven staff and have been involved in the building trade since 1965. When we say we are a long established family business we mean it – five of our staff are family members. We specialise in PVCu Cladding & Guttering Drainage & Roofing . Bournemouth and all surrounding districts being our area of service. Our staff are fully experienced in all aspects of these trades. We use our own employees on all contracts and never employ sub-contractors because we are aware of the problems associated with them – and because we feel that when we give a quotation we should know who exactly will be carrying out the work, which isn’t the case when sub-contractors are used and only ‘booked’ for your job after you accept the quotation - usually on a cheapest price basis. We undertake domestic works and contracts for local authorities, estate agents, property management companies and all major insurance companies. We are members of the Federation of Master Builders, the Confederation of Roofing Contractors and The National Register of Warranted Builders (exclusively in partnership with Local Authority Building Control), have an ongoing program of staff training at The CITB National Training College to NVQ 11 level, are local representatives of the Insurance Approved Tradesmen Network and registered Eurocell PVCu installers.
Customer References As a long established business we are only too aware that not all our ‘competitors’ maintain the high standards of workmanship and professionalism that we insist upon. As a customer you may be confronted with a confusing array of estimates, advice and promises from which to make your important decision. We feel that the most valuable information is from previous customers, and we will be glad to provide you with a current list of customers for whom we have completed contracts and who have sent us letters of recommendation. Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) & City & Guilds The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) is the government-backed replacement for the old much-missed apprenticeship schemes. Recent realisation of the upcoming skills gap, coupled with the growing concerns about the high proportion of ‘Companies’ advertising skilled services whilst employing completely unqualified staff, has initiated research which shows that only a tiny proportion of companies in the domestic maintenance field are CITB linked. In the area we serve it is less than a handful. We are registered with the CITB in order to ensure that our company maintains an ongoing schedule of skills training for our staff at The National Construction College, to City & Guilds/NVQ level, and keeps them up to date with new technologies.
Liability Insurance Liability Insurance is a legal requirement and all reputable companies have it. The following is from The Citizens Advice Bureau ‘Any company operating in the building industry without liability insurance is putting their customers and their property at great risk. Never employ a contractor without ensuring that they have it - ask for details and check them out’. Remember that damage caused to your home by an outside contractor may well not be covered by your household insurance. Our insurers are Kerrys of London.
VAT The turnover threshold for VAT registration currently works out at just over one thousand pounds per week gross, and this means that even the smallest company must be registered and charge VAT. A lower turnover in the building trade could not apply to a flourishing business with the staff and resources needed to offer a full and comprehensive service. Any guarantee you may receive is worthless if the company providing turns out to be a 'flybynight' operation which no longer exists.
Guarantee We provide a written guarantee with all the work we carry out which covers you against any faulty workmanship or materials, and this is often reinforced by the guarantee provided by the manufacturers of any materials used. We take great care to ensure that your work is carried out to the highest standards, and we use the best available materials from proven manufacturers. Your peace of mind is assured in the knowledge that the work is covered by this guarantee.
